John August SwansonJohn August Swanson is an American visual artist based in LA. John studied with Corita Kent at Immaculate Heart College. He has collaborated on a number of books. The son of a Mexican mother and a Swedish father, John’s art reflects the strong narrative influences of his cultural upbringing. His works are optimistic and colorful and he is best known for his biblical imagery. Swanson’s work is represented in the permanent collections of many museums including the Smithsonian and the Vatican Museums.

On Sunday, August 3, we will begin the evening with a presentation by John as he shares his life journey.

Then at a reception with music and refreshments you will have an opportunity to interact with John, other artists and their works.

My Journey as an Artist (Part 1)
(Sunday Evening)
The portrait of a person who couldn’t find his fit within society and how art was a doorway to self-discovery and a pathway to sharing the gift of life through art.

My Journey as an Artist (Part 2)
(Monday Afternoon)
Art changed John and encouraged him to share his gifts. This transformation is a model and an invitation to others to share their gifts. We will explore images that evoke response from the spiritual and the secular realms.
