Called as a Consecrated Priest or Brother
Through prayer, reflection, and conversation with others about our dreams and talents, we can best combine our talents with a lifestyle that will help us to share the Gospel of service with others.

Lifestyle:
Consecrated priests and brothers are men of faith who:
  • emphasize the values of prayer, loving service, and simple living in community with other men.
  • live by a vow of poverty, sharing
    all things in common.
  • live by a vow of celibacy, loving all
people universally, not making a commitment to one person in particular.
  • live by a vow of obedience, listening to God's will through prayer and other people.

Consecrated brothers and priests may be called to:

  • teach adults or children
  • provide the needy with health care or other human services
  • serve as a missionary in another country
  • serve wherever the church's needs are the greatest

What is the difference between a consecrated priest and a consecrated brother?
In addition to other forms of service, a religious priest also administers the Sacraments. Consecrated priests and brothers may be part of the same consecrated congregation, living together in community.

What is the difference between a consecrated priest and a diocesan priest?
A diocesan priest ordinarily serves the church within a geographic area called a diocese. He usually serves the people as a parish priest. A diocesan priest vows obedience to the bishop, which includes living celibately.

A consecrated priest is a member of a congregation whose ministry goes beyond the geographical limits of any diocese. A consecrated priest lives by vows of poverty, celibacy, and obedience within a community of men.
