Crime Prevention
Security and Safety is an important issue for the Sacred Heart Major Seminary community. Each member of the Seminary Community – students, faculty, and staff – should take an active role in preventing and reporting incidents that jeopardize safety on and around campus.

Protecting Property
- Do not leave exterior doors to the residential area propped open at any time.
- Rooms should be locked AT ALL TIMES.
- Park cars in assigned areas only.
- Lock cars and conceal valuables in cars.
- Report any unusual or suspicious activity, individual or incident to the Security Staff immediately.
Commuting Safely Sacred Heart Seminary consists of resident students and commuter students. The safety and security of all students remains a priority. These commuting tips will assist in the safety of our commuter students.
- Before you leave for school or work, plan your safest route. Routes that are well lighted and well traveled are safest.
- The quickest route is not always the safest. Give yourself ample time to travel the safest route.
- Always have a backup plan. Plan a secondary route to travel in case there is a major accident or construction tie-up.
- Carpool if possible.
- Always keep your vehicle well maintained.
- Purchase a decent spare tire. Make sure you know how to change the tire if you need to.
- If someone stops to ask you if you need help, ask them to go and call the police for you. Do not go with them.
- If possible, carry a cell phone.
- Avoid road rage. Using verbal retaliation or a gesture could end in a deadly tragedy. Drive calmly.
Campus Lighting Light surveys are made daily by Security Staff. Defected lighting is reported to the Plant Director, who assures that repair or other actions are taken. Lighting concerns can be made to the Physical Plant Director at (313) 883-8506.
