Tuition Assistance for Catechetical Leaders

The Office for Evangelization & Catechesis in conjunction with Sacred Heart Major Seminary authorizes tuition grants and loans that are available through a portion of the Archdiocesan Endowment set aside for education (funds raised in the "Stewards for Tomorrow" campaign). These funds, which are not allocated based on financial need, are available for qualified lay students and are to be used for classes taken towards a diploma or degree program at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.

Undergraduate students receive a to be determined % grant (no repayment expected) toward their tuition. Graduate level students receive a to be determined % loan. Upon graduation, they have five years to repay the loan, although for each year of service in a parish or Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Detroit during those five years, 20% of the loan is forgiven. Please note that rates subject to change.

Who may apply?
  • Applicants must be engaged in catechetical ministry. Examples: DREs, catechists, RCIA Directors and catechists, Youth Ministers, Catholic School Teachers of Religion, High School Campus Ministers.

  • Applicants must be engaged in this ministry during the semester when they take the class(es) for which they are receiving this grant or loan.

  • These grants and loans are available to anyone who qualifies and are not based on financial need.

To begin the process:
