A "Sister" is a Catholic woman whose needs, hopes and desires are much like any other woman's: a need to love and to be loved, a need for support, a hope to be someone worthwhile, a desire to share her gifts with others.
She may be a musician, a social worker, a drug counselor; she may love to cook, to write poetry, to ski. But what binds these sisters together with their diverse interests is their desire to share their lives with each other in community, and to minister to God's people in a variety of ways.
In fact, these women share in the tasks of keeping up a home: cleaning and cooking, shopping and budgeting. Their most important sharing is that which goes on all through these activities: a sharing of themselves, of their joys, pains, failures and successes. All of who they are, individually and together, is brought before the Lord in prayer. Each sister sets aside daily time for prayer in solitude, her way of centering her life in God, receiving God's strength and love for her. Praying as a community, the sisters offer worship and praise to God and express together their dependence on God.

What can you expect when you call the office and talk about your calling to consecrated life?
The calls are confidential. We try to help each person by giving information about the different religious communities, their charisma and their ministries. In order to send you material on different communities or to put you on our mailing list, we ask you if you are interested in receiving material from time to time and then get your address. Some times the person calling is concerned that they will receive negative comments about mail from the Vocations Office, and we respect that issue. You may request that any information sent, to be mailed in a plain envelope.
Many times people think they have a vocation for consecrated life but they are looking for security or companionship. Never the less, if you have the feeling of becoming a consecrated woman, don't hesitate, we are here to serve you in any way we can and help you to discern about your vocation as a consecrated woman.
