Director of Religious Education
Directs the entire parish catechetical/faith formation program
- Gives direction and vision for catechesis in the parish
- Plans and holds regular meetings with catechetical staff
- Oversees the formation of catechists in accord with the current Archdiocesan program
- Is a member of the catechetical/faith formation committee of the parish Education Commission
- Works in collaboration with the parish staff (e.g. pastor, school principal, youth minister)
It is a policy of the Archdiocese of Detroit that every parish has a Director of Religious Education (DRE).
Detroit was one of the first dioceses to create a certification program for Directors of Religious Education.
Detroit was the first diocese in the United States to have their DRE certification process approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) (November 2, 2001).
